MOM'S HOME! SHE BEAT CANCER! UNBELIEVABLE. SHE'S BACK IN HER HOME, HARBOR BAY, ALAMEDA, GATED SITUATION!
it took about 3 weeks at KAISER. a surgical team led by Dr.
Patel from Yale removed cancerous tissue from my mom's lung. other doctors were two lovely lady
resident surgeons , a chineselady from MT HOLYOKE, WASHINGTON ST.LOUIS AND AN ORANGE COUNTY PERSIAN DOCTOR FROM UNIV. OF CA. SAN DIEGO.
WHAT A TERRIFIC SURGICAL TEAM!
NOW MY MOM'S BACK LISTENING TO LAWRENCE WELK AND NOT ME. BUT THAT'S O.K. SHE ALWAYS SAYS I PLAY TOO MANY NOTES, AND SHE'S RIGHT.
it was my mom who sang to me when i was young, and by the time i entered kindergarten, i already knew BLUE SKIES, THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE, TEA FOR TWO, APRIL SHOWERS,TENDERLY, DEEP PURPLE, et al. pretty heavy music for a young kid, but i'm still playing the same tunes today. THAT IS THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK. too bad kids today aren't exposed to this great music. and then when i was older and began playing saxophone in the 6th grade, my mom's brothers who were in WWII had collected a whole bunch of 78s, BENNY GOODMAN, HARRY JAMES, THE DORSEYS, ARTIE SHAW and the like. their solos would blow my mind. i ask himself at that time, how in the hell can these guys play like that. well, finally years i later, i think i can do it too.
SO YOU SEE, YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE TO BE EXPOSED TO GREAT MUSIC, OTHERWISE, THEIR MINDS AND EARS ARE NOT LIKELY TO DEVELOP.
I FEEL BLESSED BECAUSE OF MY MOM, AND EVEN THOUGH SHE SAYS "WHY DON'T YOU GET A JOB INSTEAD OF BLOWING THAT HORN ALL DAY", SHE STILL LOVES ME, AND I LOVE HER!
THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO SENT GOOD WISHES AND PRAYERS!
LOVE,
WEN
