SUNDAY MORNING SANTA MONICA is dedicated to my parents MAY JAN MEW AND THOMAS B. MEW whose support was critical to my ability to make mewsic today, and also to my dear AUNT SARAH JAN, my family, relatives and friends who have been behind me as i endeavor to create music spontanously.
my parents are in heaven now; so they can't hear this music in person, but i'm sure they've joined BIRD, DUKE, STRAYHORN and all my other heroes who have influenced what comes out of my horn.
i didn't have enough room on one cd to honor those who have encouraged me to keep going and enter the unknown.
SUNDAY MORNING SANTA MONICA was composed one beautiful SUNDAY MORNING on santa monica's famed 3rd street promenade where i play nearly everyday, weather permitting. you'll see in photos on all my blogs all my friends and students.
BOSSALERO or perhaps a portuguese title to be used later is what i thought was a BOLERO; however when producer michael parlett and i finshed it and played it for the famed LEILA, A POPULAR D.J. in BUENOS AIRES, she enjoyed it and thought it was a bossa. not being that well versed in latin music, i will use BOSSALERO and consider a PORTUGUESE TITLE.
ROBY'S WALTZ is for my friend ROBERTA GAMBARINI who HANK JONES called the greatest vocalist to emerge in the last 60 years. i'm honored with her friendship and good wishes.
MAY JAN MEW for my mom of course, who recently passed and who taught me many tunes from the GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK before i began kindergarten.
